The Endocannabinoid System, or ECS, is an ancient bodily system that helps govern and manage the rest of the body. However is was only recently discovered in 1992 and we still have a lot to learn about it.
What we know so far is that it acts like an umbrella system that helps regulate the most important functions within the body–like mental health, pain, inflammation, sleep, energy, appetite, and even reproduction. The primary role of the ECS is to keep the body and mind in a state of homeostasis, and cannabinoids like CBD are its main fuel source.
The ECS is comprised of two main receptors called the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors or more prevalent than pain receptors and can be found everywhere throughout the entire brain and body. When we use cannabinoids like CBD these receptors "unlock" and help us feel healthy and happy.
